How It Works
Our Proven 3-Step Process
There are three steps we take to assess your business and determine your growth path — ultimately ending with planning your business’s transition. Even if exit planning isn’t on your radar right now, having a plan is just good business strategy.
- Assess
- Grow
- Transition
The first step is to get a thorough analysis of your business from top to bottom and through an objective lens. During the analysis, we’ll:
- Identify roadblocks bringing down the value of your company
- Determine your most valuable business assets
- Determine your company’s value in today’s market
- Assess your personal readiness for exiting or transitioning your business
- Discuss the highest and lowest risks you’re taking
- Determine timelines for goal achievement
- Outline a general plan to protect your company in the event of an emergency
- Create a roadmap for growing your business’s value
- Determine your readiness to transition and/or sell
- Identify how you will transition out of your business, whether it’s transitioning to a family member or employees or by selling to a third party
- Ascertain whether your business is ready to go to market
- Utilize resources like One2800 to find the right buyer, if necessary
Frequently Asked Questions
Our Process FAQs
Read answers to some of our frequently asked questions about our process.
What should I expect to happen during the Assess stage of the process?
This is the part of the process where the team at BVA gets to know you and your business. With your input, we analyze business risk, benchmark your business against the industry and begin to assess how we can provide value to you and your company.
How is this process unique from what other business advisors offer?
At BVA, our team and other internal resources at Blue & Co. can bring a breadth and depth of knowledge that most advisory groups just don’t have available. We have all advised our clients on the various stages of this process for many years. BVA has now taken the time to add significant structure to this process so that our clients can harvest the value of their business — not only upon exit down the road, but for many years leading up to that exit.
Why is a CEPA-certified professional a better advisor for me and my business?
A CEPA-certified professional is trained in a specific process to help an owner assess their current business situation, create a prioritized plan to build value in their business, and guide the owner toward an exit on their terms and timing.
What is a CEPA designation?
The CEPA designation stands for Certified Exit Planning Advisor and is sponsored by Exit Planning Institute. To earn the CEPA designation, an advisor must attend an initial 40-hour training session, pass an exam, and work in the financial or business advisory space. To maintain the designation, individuals must complete a requisite number of hours of continuing education in exit planning and business advisory.
